How to Make a MIDI Drum File for Audition 3

Adobe Audition 3 is a music production program that lets you edit and create music. The interface of Audition 3 enables you to work efficiently with options such as time-stretching, vocal extraction and integrated CD burning. When composing and editing MIDI tracks for Audition 3, you have the option of using a MIDI sequencer. In order to create a MIDI drum file, you must have an external MIDI device such as a drum machine, electric keyboard or an alternative drum sound source.

      Connect your MIDI device to the interface.

      Plug your MIDI device into the MIDI interface by connecting the "MIDI Out" of your instrument to the "MIDI In" of the interface. Turn on the MIDI device and the interface. Open the program or download a free trial version of the software online.

      Set the device as "MIDI Out."

      Go to the "Insert" menu and click "MIDI Track" or press "Alt+M" to create a new MIDI sequencer track. Assign your MIDI device so the software is able to recognize it by going to the "Options" tab and selecting "Device Properties." Choose the "MIDI Out" tab and select your MIDI device from the list of options and press "OK."

      Look for the signal on the interface.

      Click the "Options" tab again and assign the MIDI channel to "1." Select the menu options on your MIDI device and set the channel to "1." Press buttons on your MIDI device to determine if you're getting a signal through your MIDI interface.

      Play your selected drum pattern.

      Click and highlight the blank MIDI track and select "View" from the top of the screen, then "Multi-Track View." Click the blank MIDI track again and press "Record" or the red "L" located to the left in the MIDI track options. Play the selected drum sequences or patterns and press "Stop" to end the recording.

      Save the file when done.

      Preview the MIDI drum file by pressing the "Play" button. Save the MIDI drum file to your computer after you're done.
