How to Make Your Own Songs for Free

Adam Young, also known as Owl City, used a freeware recording program to record his major-label debut, "Ocean Eyes." You don't need to shell out thousands of dollars to record quality-sounding music. You can make your own songs free by downloading a freeware recording program and using your computer microphone.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Control Panel and click on the Sound folder. Click on the "Recording" tab. Test and adjust your microphone settings to allow for a proper recording level.

    • 2

Download and install a freeware music recording program, such as Audacity or GoldWave (see Resources).

    • 3

Open the freeware music recording program. Click on the "Record" button. Sing and/or play an instrument near your computer.

    • 4

Click on the "Stop" button. Click on "File," "Save." Enter the title of your song and save it.
