How do I Repair a Screen on a MPC 2000?

The MPC-2000 is a professional 64-track sampler-sequencer workstation built by Akai. It sports sampling specifications that include CD quality 16-bit, 44.1 kHz sample rate in stereo or mono. Editing tools including in this unit are tune, pitch shift, truncate, looking, key placements and velocity effects.

According to the website The Vintage Synth Explorer, which reviews vintage synthesizers, "the MPC-2000 is designed to transmit sync and MIDI information as well as normal production studio tasks. Individual tracks can be muted for building and changing your music live."

Instructions

  1. Case Removal

    • 1

Remove both screws from each side the unit and the three screws from the back of the unit that secure the front panel.

    • 2

Turn the unit over and remove the three screws from the undercarriage that secure the panel (where the floppy drive is located) facing you as the unit is laying flat. Do not drop the unit. Place a soft surface underneath the unit, such as a towel or small blanket.

    • 3

Lay the unit back down in its upright position and remove the front panel by pulling it toward you.

    • 4

Remove all knobs from the top of the unit and remove the top casing.

    Removal of the LCD Screen

    • 5

Remove both screws from each side of the LCD screen. Carefully lift the screen up just enough to see the bottom side of the screens housing area. There are two connection points that must be removed.

    • 6

Remove the power cable located in the bottom corner. It typically is two white wires connected to one point. Gently pull on this connection point on each side and slowly ease the connection out while using minimal force.

    • 7

Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable from the ZIF connector by gripping each side of the locking bar and pulling upward with minimal force. Do not pull the locking bar completely up because once it is disengaged the ribbon cable will release from the connection.

    • 8

Reverse the process to install the new LCD screen.
