How to Mix Songs Together to Make One Song

Mixing many songs together to create one song can be a fun project. If mixed properly, many songs can be combined to create a funny remake. If all the songs used are in the same key, have the same general tempo and song structure, they can be combined to create one contiguous piece. A well-known version of this is a mash-up of Katy Perry's California Girls and Ke$ha's "Tick Tok." The eight-bar blues is the basis for getting started.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose two or more songs that are similar in composition structure. For example, use the eight-bar blues. Mixing and matching is relatively easy because there are countless songs composed to this structure.

An eight-bar blues song might go like this:

      Bar 1: C7

      Bar 2: C7

      Bar 3: F7

      Bar 4: F7

      Bar 5: C7

      Bar 6: C7

      Bar 7: G7

      Bar 8: F7

      Repeat

Open up Adobe Audition by double-clicking the icon on your desktop. A multi-track view is opened when the program is launched.

    • 3

Right-click on one of the tracks, and select your first song.

    • 4

Listen to the song. Count out one bar of the song. The song will be in 4/4 time, meaning it will have four quarter notes per bar. As you count, press the "Pause" button just as the second bar begins. It should sound like this: "One, two, three, four, click".

    • 5

Cut the song at this point using the "Scissor" tool, which is located in the top-left toolbar.

    • 6

Delete the remainder of the song.

    • 7

Right-click on another track, and add the next song that you want to mix.

    • 8

Find the portion of the song that you want to use.

    • 9

Count one bar. Cut the song at the beginning of beat one, and again after beat four.

    • 10

Slide this portion to the end of the first song you cut. Press "Play." The songs should play together and sound like the same song.

    • 11

Repeat this process with as many songs as desired to create one complete song.
