Set Mixcraft to recognize your sound card after installation. Select "File" from the toolbar, "Preferences" from the drop-down menu and "Sound Device" from the pop-up window. Set "Default Recording Device (Input)" and "Playback Device (Output)" to use your sound card, if it is not already chosen. Leave other settings at the default values, and click on "OK."
Connect your instrument to the input of your sound car with an appropriate adapter cable. Using a standard sound card, this is the light blue jack. If you are using a different audio interface, refer to the manufacturer's instructions. Select a track by clicking on a control box on the left side of the screen. To arm the track for recording, click on the "Arm" button. The track turns from green to red to indicate it is ready to record. Set the level of the instrument being record by using the slider in the control box on the left of the track.
Click on the red circle on the left of the transport control panel that spans the middle of the screen. Mixcraft begins recording on the armed track. At the end of your performance, click on the green square on the transport control or press the space bar on your computer keyboard. Click the "Arm" button again to protect your performance from being overwritten. Select another track, and repeat the process until you are finished recording tracks.
Adjust the levels of your tracks with the faders on the the "Mixer" tab on the lower screen. Equalization can be added using the "Hi," "Mid" and "Lo" controls. Effects can be added by using the "FX" button at the top of each strip.
