Load the installation CD into your CD drive. It may take a few seconds for the information to load. The CD comes with a free version of the "Cakewalk" music production program. Click "Install" when prompted to load the necessary drivers and Cakewalk.
Plug the microphone cable into the USB socket. If you have a laptop, the USB is typically located on the side. On desktop computers, it is located either at the front or at the rear of the tower. The G Track is "bus powered", which means it gets its power from the computer via the USB cable, so no power supply is required.
Load up Cakewalk or your preferred recording program. The benefit of selecting Cakewalk in this instance is that it will automatically recognize the G Track. If using another program, click "Settings", then "Devices" and then "New Device." Your program will offer you a list of connected devices, select "Samson G Track" from the list.
Assign the G Track to a mixer channel. Double-click on the channel strip and when prompted, select "audio track." The G Track has an in-built mixer and interface, so you can plug other instruments into it to connect them to the computer.
Connect a pair of headphones by plugging the headphone cable into the headphone socket on the G Track audio interface section. Put the headphones on. Increase the volume to a suitable level using the headphone volume dial on the G Track.
Adjust the microphone level to a suitable volume. Sing into the microphone and adjust according to the level in your headphones.
Hit "Record" on Cakewalk or your preferred recording program and sing into the microphone.
Plug a quarter-inch instrument cable into the instrument jack on the G Track audio interface section. Open a new track in the recording program and select "Audio track." Turn the volume dial on the instrument to full, put on the headphones and adjust the volume dial on the G Track mixer section. Hit "Record" and play your guitar or bass part.
