Connect your guitar to the sound card or audio interface your system uses. For best results, a dedicated audio interface device or an audio mixer connected to your sound card will allow easy connection for a variety of inputs. If you are recording an acoustic guitar without a built-in pickup, a microphone will be necessary.
Configure Mixcraft to accept audio from your input source. From the File menu choose "Preferences." Click on the "Sound Device" tab. If you have more than one audio device, select it from the list. Mixcraft will generally detect and set itself for your default equipment.
Arm the track to which you wish to record your guitar performance by clicking the "Arm" button. Set your electric guitar sound or adjust the microphone on your acoustic guitar. When ready, click the red "Record" button. Record your performance and press the square "Stop" button. When you are satisfied with your performance, click the "Arm" button again to disarm the track, preventing accidental overwriting.
Enhance your guitar track by adding equalization and effects. Mixcraft comes with a variety of effects from filter and modulation effects, to distortion and amplifier simulators, specifically designed for guitars. Refer to Mixcraft's documentation for further details.
