M-Audio AV 40 studio reference monitors feature 4 inch, polypropylene-coated woofer drivers, coupled with a 3/4-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeter in each enclosure. The enclosure also features M-Audio's proprietary OptImage wave guide technology, allowing for true, crisp treble reproduction and direction. These drivers are magnetically shielded to prevent any adverse effects to traditional CRT computer monitors or other recording equipment and chemical fuse-protected to prevent electrical overloading or damage.
Each speaker is self-powered with a 20 watt amplifier per channel, configured in a class A/B architecture. This efficient, solid-state power provides plenty of volume for near-field monitoring and is designed specifically for use with a computer-based, digital audio workstation, such as Pro Tools. Each amplifier is fused for electronic spike protection and provides a quick, tight sound.
Though only 4 inches wide, the woofer speakers in the AV 40 speaker are coupled with internal bass reflection and tuned porting within the speaker's enclosure. These physical design elements, in conjunction with an included electronic bass boost switch, give the AV 40 a tight and responsive bass reproduction. M-Audio has tuned these speakers to perform well with many genres of music, including rap and rock, as well as computer-based gaming and other effect-heavy sound reproduction.
The M-Audio AV 40 includes balanced 1/4 inch jack connectors, as well as unbalanced RCA connectors for easy setup. Front panel features include an 1/8 inch input which allows quick connection of MP3 players or laptops, 1/8 inch headphone jack and stereo volume control.
