Cubase templates are recording setups that have all the proper track labeling, color coding and specific settings for a particular recording session. For example, if tracking vocals, the template could be set up to have five tracks for different takes on the lead vocal, two tracks per background vocal recorded, two tracks for ad libs, a couple of free tracks that can be labeled and used on the fly and a track for the music mixdown track. By right-clicking on the Track Info, which is just left of the track, you can customize what is shown on each track , such as name, instrument, volume, pan, channel, class and appearance. You can then save the whole setup. When it comes time to record vocals, you won't have to go through the trouble of setting it all up again. You just open your template and it's set.
Cubase hotkeys are shortcuts to performing specific tasks and are usually much faster than using the mouse to do the job. They help in having an efficient recording session. Many are normally found in the pull-down menus to the far right of the command you want to execute and are a key or combination of keys that you press to perform the command. For example, pressing Ctrl-O will bring up the file box to open a file, Ctrl-E will open up the Edit box for the track selected, and Ctrl-F will open up the Audio Pool of all the files currently being used in the song.
The up and down arrow keys select the track directly above or below it. The left to right arrow keys select the different parts on the selected audio track.
Keypad hotkeys are on the number pad on the right side of the computer keyboard. They usually are related to recording and cursor movement on the particular track.
The number pad keys do a variety of different things. These are used constantly so it's important to memorize what key performs what action. The following is a short list:
1 - Moves the cursor to the left locator.
2 - Moves the cursor to the right locator.
3 - Moves the cursor to the 0 mark at the beginning of the song.
Enter - Begins playback.
0 - Stops playback.
* - Begins recording.
