Double-click the desktop icon to open your preferred digital audio workstation.
Open a MIDI instrument track. The method for doing so varies slightly according to which digital audio workstation you are using, but you typically click "File" and select "New MIDI Track."
Name the MIDI track, for example, "EZ Drummer Groove 1."
Open the EZ Drummer interface. Access the plugins menu and select EZ Drummer from the drop-down list. The plugins menu is typically located under "Options" or "Tools," depending on which workstation you use.
Click on the drum icon to audition the sound. The EZ Drummer interface features a drum kit graphic. If you don't like the sound, click "Menu" and select another drum type.
Click on the arrow to tweak the sound of the drum. This brings up sound options, such as microphone position. Tweak the parameters by dragging the various graphics backward and forward.
Click on the mixer to adjust the balance of the drum volumes. Drag the virtual sliders up to increase the volume of each drum; drag them down to lower the volume.
Click on "Open Grooves." Select a groove template from the menu, such as "4/4 Straight." Select a groove style, such as "Pop Rock." Then select a playing style, such as "Hi Hats Open." The grooves come in four bar templates.
Click the play button to hear how the groove sounds. Tweak the drum kit and hear the changes in real-time. Hit the stop button and drag the EZ Drummer interface to the side so you can see the digital audio workstation interface.
Click on the groove tab and drag it to the grid interface level with the track you opened earlier. Drop the groove into the track. This fills up a four bar space.
Click on "Open Grooves" again and select a different groove type. Adjust the parameters again, then drag and drop next to the first four bars of groove.
Open the "Piano Roll" editor on your digital audio workstation. This is a standard editing interface included in typical digital audio workstations. Edit the drum patterns manually in the piano roll grid interface. Mute drum strikes by clicking on the colored squares. Make new drum sounds by clicking in empty squares.
