EZdrummer is a VST plug-in, so in order to use it within your recorded songs you must open it in your DAW software. Once you open the EZdrummer plug-in, you need to create a MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) instrument track for it to use. After you assign the MIDI track, you can open the EZdrummer GUI (graphic user interface) by double clicking on the VST/Soft Synth slot that it is using.
Once you open the EZdrummer GUI, select pre-created drum loops to insert into your track. To view the drum loops, click on the “Open Grooves” button located towards the bottom of the window. This will open another side window where you can select the style of grooves that you are looking for, such as “Pop Rock.” After selecting the style, another window will open displaying time signature and additional options. After you click on the time signature that you want, a third and fourth window will open with various beats you can select. Once you select a beat, you can preview the beat by pressing the “Play” button at the bottom of the window next to the “Open Grooves” button.
When you find the beat that you want to use in your song, you can insert it into the MIDI track by dragging and dropping the beat. You can assign as many beats as you want to each MIDI track, and you can also add additional beats (such as fills) to make the drums more interesting. To help mix the drum beats, use the internal EZdrummer mixer. Locate the mixer by clicking the “Open Mixer” button at the bottom of the EZdrummer Window. Experiment with the different faders to help get the sound that you are looking for.
If you don’t like the sound of the current drum kit that you are using, you can change it in a few simple steps. When the EZdrummer GUI is open, click on the “Triangle” buttons located on each drum. This will open a drop-down menu in which you can choose different drums as well as completely different kits such as the Ambient Kit or Tight Kit.
