How to Create a Soundproof Booth Yourself

Creating a soundproof booth at home can be done in a day and if the right materials are used, the soundproofing can be of professional quality. The ideal booth is a small room in the basement. The basement is one of the most soundproof rooms in a house, with concrete floors and walls, and is therefore a good starting place. Avoid rooms with windows, as soundproof booths do not generally have windows unless they are made from special soundproof glass.

Instructions

    • 1

Line the walls with soundproof insulation. This is similar to regular insulation except made from a soundproof material. Line the ceiling with the insulation as well.

    • 2

Lay soundproof mats on the floor. Soundproof mats come in many sizes. Large (area) and thick (depth) ones will provide the best soundproofing. If needed, cut the mats to fit awkwardly shaped spaces.

    • 3

Affix soundproof mats to the walls over the soundproof foam. This is not necessary, but will provide added soundproofing. Nail the mats to the walls. Affix mats to the ceiling as well, and nail them to the rafters. The mats for the ceiling and walls do not need to be as thick as those on the ground.

    • 4

Affix a soundproof mat to the door as well. Because the door has less insulation, affix another soundproof mat to the outside of the door. Make sure the mat is as close to the ground as possible, even slightly touching it.
