Install the recording software on your computer. Most sound cards have a number of audio inputs and outputs. They are generally only capable of low resolution sound transfer and rely on small flimsy connectors, incompatible with most professional equipment. Because of this, most studios use an external converter to input sound to the computer. An "Audio Interface" or "ADC" will handle this job.
Turn off the computer. Connect the ADC to the computer's firewire or USB port, depending on the model, and turn on the computer. The ADC should switch on automatically, assuming it draws its power from the computer's data socket. Otherwise, it may be necessary to connect it to the main supply and power it on manually prior to turning on the computer.
Install the included manufacturer's drivers for the ADC, if any were included with the unit. Many ADCs and interfaces require no setup. If drivers were included, insert the disc and allow the install utility to complete. It may be necessary to restart the computer after this - do so if prompted.
Connect the speakers to the ADC output sockets and turn the monitor volume to zero. Power on the speakers and launch the recording software. Click on the drop down "File" menu and access "Preferences." Locate the menu for "Input/Output Device" and select the ADC from the available list.
