How to Configure a Roland TD-12 With Addictive Drums

Addictive Drums is a plug-in software designed to interface with most computer based recording studios. The software acts as the brain of your MIDI controlled Roland TD12KX electric drum kit. The Addictive Drums replaces the standard RD 12KX drum module. Therefore, you must interface the drum kit with the Addictive Drum plug-in software. To do so, you need to plug the MIDI drums into your computer.

Instructions

Locate the “MIDI Out” port on the back of your TD12Kx controller and plug the MIDI cable into the port. If you are looking at the back of the machine, the port is located on the left side.

    • 2

Plug the MIDI cable into the “MIDI In” port on your computer’s soundcard. If you have an older computer that does not have a MIDI port, use a MIDI to USB converter cable and plug the USB end of the cable into a USB port. If your computer has a Firewire port instead of a MIDI port, use a MIDI to Firewire cable and plug the Firewire end of the cable into the Firewire port.

Turn on the TD12Kx drum module and press the “Setup” button on the keypad. The setup screen will turn on. Press the F1 button and then press the F2 button to enter the global MIDI parameters.

    • 4

Turn MIDI on, turn off “Soft thru” and then turn off Local Control via the keypad. This turns on your MIDI controls and allows your computer studio to control the drums.
