Sound cards do not detect USB devices. These products act as audio devices alongside your sound card. To access a Behringer USB device, use your software to select your sound source. The Behringer device will be listed as an option under its product name or as USB Audio Codec; it will be an option in place of your regular sound card. The Behringer device will now operate as an audio interface. Behringer products that do not feature USB connectivity will be seen by your sound card as another audio source. Audio signals carry no information about the source device.
Connect the Behringer USB-enabled device using the USB cable supplied with the product. A computer reboot should not be required, but it is a good idea if you encounter anything unexpected. Be sure to power up your Behringer device prior to connection as well, so that it is recognizable by your computer. Non-USB Behringer products will connect to your sound card via audio cables the same way any other sound source would.
The Behringer device can be used as an audio input source along side your existing sound card in digital audio workstation software that supports multiple inputs. Select the Behringer device for input on a mono or stereo channel, depending on your device; use your existing sound card as you have in the past. In the case of Behringer mixers, two-channel output matching the main output of the mixer will transmit via USB to your DAW. A USB microphone will transmit a mono signal.
Connecting USB audio equipment is simple and automatic. The installation process for Behringer USB devices is automatic. If your computer does not recognize the Behringer device, install the ASIO driver included with your hardware. If you do not have it, it's available through the Behringer support website. Reset your Behringer device by shutting it off for 15 seconds and turning it on again, then reboot your computer with the Behringer hardware connected and powered up.
Check all physical connections and use good-quality cables. Verify that your sound card plays signals from other equipment. If you are using a Behringer mixer, read the instruction manual to ensure you are not only using the recommended outputs for computer applications, but that you are routing the signal properly through the mixer. Contemporary mixers are designed to route audio in a variety of ways. If there is audio present through a headphone connection on the mixer, it is likely there is simply a routing error going to the audio output of the mixer, so no signal arrives at the sound card.
