What was first piece of music performed?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on how one defines "music." However, some of the earliest known musical instruments date back to around 40,000 years ago, and these would likely have been used to produce some form of music. One of the earliest known pieces of music that has been recorded in written form is the Hurrian Songs, which date back to around 1400 BC. These songs were discovered in the ancient city of Ugarit in what is now Syria, and they are written in cuneiform script. The songs are based on a seven-note scale and are thought to have been accompanied by instruments such as the lyre and the drum.
