Decide which songs you want on the mix tape. It is important to make a comprehensive list of songs in the order needed, since recording onto a cassette tape can take some time. To avoid re-recording over mistakes, get organized before pressing the "Record" button.
Find a stereo or boom box that has both cassette tape and CD playing capabilities. Open the CD player and insert the CD that contains the first desired song. Close the CD cover.
Skip through the songs on the CD until you reach the the desired song. Insert the tape into the tape deck.
Make sure the tape is rewound to the very beginning. Hit the "Play" button on the tape player and let the blank tape play for about 10 seconds. Cassette tapes have a small amount of "dead space" at the beginning. If the song is recorded from the very beginning of the tape, the first 5 or 10 seconds will be cut off.
Hit the "Record" button on the tape player while simultaneously hitting the "Play" button on the CD player. The song must play through to the end for it to record onto the cassette tape. When the song is complete, hit the "Stop" button on the tape player. Remove the CD.
Hit the "Play" button on the tape player and let the tape run for about 2 seconds. This will give a small silent gap in between songs for a more cohesive sound. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for each song.
