Arrive early for your shift so you can plan your talk breaks and content according to the music log or station promotions that must be mentioned.
Research content on the artists featured on your station, in conjunction with when you will intro or outro a song. It's important to be informed about what's going on in current events and entertainment news.
Speak about something brief and engaging about the artist of the song you're going into. Ask yourself if what you say when you crack the mic would be interesting to you. If not, don't say it.
Execute short breaks with strong content. The less you say, the more impact you have on the listener.
Smile when you talk on the microphone. You will notice a difference in your delivery, and it will enhance what you say across the airwaves.
Volunteer in your community. Keep active in upcoming promotions especially during the holidays, as well as community rebuilding or charity events. The community will embrace your efforts and remember that you were the DJ that got involved.
Represent yourself and your station in a positive manner at all times. You are part of a team and when you meet fans or listeners at station events, always have a positive attitude. If it wasn't for the listener, you wouldn't be on the air.
