How to Build a PVC Music Stand

A music stand is a device that holds sheet music to allow performers to read it while performing. There are several different types of music stands, made out of wood, metal and even PVC pipe. Almost all musicians who read music need a music stand to hold their sheet music. Some music stands can be expensive. You can save money by building your own music stand. An economic alternative is a music stand made from PVC pipe.

Instructions

  1. Assemble the Base

    • 1

Gather your supplies, making sure you have everything you need before you start your project.

    • 2

Cut a piece of 3/4-inch PVC pipe approximately 20 inches long. This becomes your base pipe.

    • 3

Slide the 20-inch piece of pipe through a T-connector. The T-connector should be centered along the pipe with a short piece sticking up.

    • 4

Add a T-connector to both ends of the 20-inch piece of pipe.

    • 5

Cut two pieces of the 3/4-inch pipe about 12 inches in length.

    • 6

Slide the 12-inch pieces of pipe through the T-connectors on the ends of the base pipe.

    • 7

Slide the stand support pipe into the T-connector on the base pipe.

    Top Section Assembly

    • 9

Cut the 3/4-inch PVC pipe into three pieces that are 12 inches long and four pieces that are 8 inches long. The 12-inch pieces will be the vertical supports, and the 8-inch pieces will be the horizontal pieces of the frame.

    • 10

Attach an elbow connector to either side of one of the 12-inch pipes. This becomes one side of the top frame.

    • 11

Add an 8-inch piece of pipe to each elbow joint.

    • 12

Attach a T-connector to the top 8-inch piece of pipe and a four-way connector to the bottom 8-inch piece.

    • 13

Insert a 12-inch piece into the top T-connector and the bottom four-way connector. It becomes the center support for the frame.

    • 14

Attach the remaining two 8-inch pieces of pipe into the ends of the T-connector and the four-way connector.

    • 15

Add an elbow joint to the ends of the 8-inch pieces of pipe.

    • 16

Connect the last 12-inch piece of pipe between the two elbow joints.

    • 17

      Cut a 4-inch piece of 3/4-inch pipe.

    • 18

Slide the 4-inch piece of pipe into the remaining end of the four-way connector.

    • 19

Add an elbow joint to the opposite end of the 4-inch piece of pipe.
