Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Have all your pieces cut and thickness planed.

    • 2

Cut a design of your choosing into the triangular boards that will form the sides of your music stand. Ensure your cutout is large enough to comfortably put your hand through; you'll need the access to secure the box to the pedestal.

    • 3

Draw an "X" on the 16-inch-long board, with the legs running corner to corner diagonally. Drill a hole, just large enough for a hanger bolt, where the legs overlap; it should be in the center of the board.

    • 4

Drill holes just big enough for the hanger bolts in the center of both ends of the dowel and the center of the oak board that will form your music stand base.

    • 5

Ensure the base board is level.

    Assembly

    • 6

Butt the 18-inch-long by 9-½-wide maple board to the 10-inch-wide board using glue and nails. Clamp and let the glue cure for 12 to 24 hours.

    • 7

Fit the drilled 16-inch board to the angled face assembly to form the floor of your music stand's box. Be sure it is centered; there should be an inch of overhang on both ends. Secure the floor to the face assembly with glue and nails. Clamp and allow to cure at least 12 hours.

    • 8

Check the fit of the triangular end boards before installing and trim as necessary. Secure the end boards of the music stand to the face and floor assembly using glue and nails.

    • 9

Attach the 1¾-inch-wide boards to both sides of the face assembly to form the shelves of your music stand. Mount them, using glue and nails, so the edges of the box faces are positioned on the center line of the shelf boards.

    • 10

Clamp the newly installed pieces and let the glue cure 12 to 24 hours. After removing the clamps, sand and seal the box, pedestal and base of your music stand.

    • 11

Fasten the dowel to the base with a hang bolt and secure with a wing nut. Complete your music stand by connecting the box to the pedestal in the same manner.
