How to Use an RS-PCM Sound Module

A ReSynthesized Pulse Code Modulation sound module is a device that creates digital sounds and MIDI music files that you can use with your computer. The Roland company makes RS-PCM sound modules that you can purchase and setup in your home for your digital music creation needs. Once the device is set up, there are a few operating instructions you can learn to playback one of the 128 instrument sounds on the device.

      Press the "ON/OFF" button on the front of the device to turn it on. Press the keys on the keyboard to being playing music once the device is powered up. Adjust the volume of the device to a comfortable level by turning the volume knob and playing keys until it is at the level you want.

      Press the "Edit" button to switch between the three operation modes of the device. These modes are "Play," "Edit" and "Data." When you press "Edit" the mode you are switching to will be on the display. In "Play" mode you will be able to use the keyboard to play songs with the sound module.

      Press the "Edit" button until the display reads "Edit." In this mode you will be able to change the settings of the sound module and save various music parts that you can recall and use later. Use the arrow keys to highlight a parameter you want to change including patch, rhythm and timber. Press the "Enter" key to enter a submenu for each parameter and use the arrow keys to make adjustments which will affect how the keyboard sounds.

      Press "Edit" to display "Data" mode where you can save settings and pull up previously saved settings. Use the arrow keys to highlight an option and select it with "Enter." The options include "Write" and "Initialize," which are the options you will choose to save or load you work. Use the arrow keys to navigate the menus and the "Enter" button to select a file.
