How to Use the DigiTech RP200

The DigiTech RP200 multi effects processor offers the user the option of using one of 40 preset guitar effects or creating one of their own. The unit features an additional 40 memory slots, in which the user can combine effects such as phaser, wah, delay, reverb and a compressor to create their own custom sound. The DigiTech RP200 can be picked up relatively easily by someone familiar with guitar effects pedals, but finding out a few basic instructions for how to use the pedal can help start sculpting your own effects with confidence.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the volume down on your amplifier. Connect the AC power supply to the "Power Input" on the back of the RP200. Locate the "Power Input" by looking around the back of the RP200, directly above the "h" in the word "DigiTech." Plug your guitar into the "Input" jack and connect to your amplifier using the "Output" jack. Raise the volume on your amplifier to your ordinary level, and then turn the "Master Level" dial up on the RP200. The "Master Level" dial is the furthest right of the three dials on the front of the unit.

Press the "Up" and "Down" footswitches to select an effect from the factory presets. Look at the display screen on the front of the RP200 to see the name and number of the effect that is currently selected. The "Up" and "Down" footswitches can be found to the bottom left of the RP200. The unit has 40 preset sounds programmed in, and when you receive the unit, these will be duplicated in the user slots. Use the furthest left of the three knobs to adjust the "Amp Type" and the middle knob to adjust the "Amp Gain" parameter, which controls distortion.

Select the effect you wish to edit using the "Up" and "Down" footswitches and then press "Select" to enter "Editing" mode. Find the "Select" button to the left of the three dials in the center of the unit. This will activate the "Matrix," which is the large section located between the display screen and the three dials in the middle of the unit. This section is used to edit effects.

Press the "Select" button repeatedly until the desired effect group is selected. The effect groups, such as "Pickup/Wah," "Effects" and "Delay" can be found down the left hand column of the "Matrix," and the currently selected group is shown by the LED light located to the right of the group's name.

Use the three "Parameter" knobs to change the values within your chosen effects group. Each of the three knobs on the RP200 is directly underneath one of the three columns of effects. Adjust the knob underneath the specific component of the effect you wish to change to tweak the sound. For example, with "Pickup/Wah" selected, the left knob adjusts the type of pickup (Single coil or humbucker), the middle knob adjusts the type of wah you wish to use, and the right knob selects the neutral foot-pedal position ("1" means the toe fully up, and "99" means the toe fully down -- this can be adjusted in play using the pedal on the right hand side of the unit).

Press the "Store" button to save your desired effect. The LED beside the "Store" button will flash when you have made a change to the preset effect. The "Store" button is located to the right of the three dials. Use the furthest left knob to select a letter or number for the name of your new effect, and use the middle knob to advance to the next character. When you've given your effect the desired name, press the "Store" button again. Select the desired location for your effect using the "Up" and "Down" footswitches, and then press "Store" again to save your effect.
