How to Use Effects in N-Track Studio 6

N-Track Studio 6 is a multitrack digital audio workstation, DAW, that can host VST and DXi audio effects. Some of the most commonly used effects include reverb, which adds an echo effect to audio; delay and chorus, which make audio sound fuller; and compression, which increases the perceived volume. You can use an effect in n-Track Studio 6 as either an insert effect or a send effect. An insert effect sits on one track and affects all audio output from that track, and a send effect mixes the altered audio with the original audio signal.

Instructions

  1. Insert Effects

    • 1

Double-click the n-Track Studio 6 icon to launch the program. Click "File," then "Open." Double-click the project to which you want to add the effects. If the mixer's not already open, press "F3" to open it.

    • 2

Hover the mouse cursor over the gray box at the bottom of the track to which you want to add an effect. Click the green "+" button that appears. Double-click the effect that you want to use, then close the effects browser window.

    • 3

Click on the effect name in the gray box at the bottom of the channel. Set the device's parameters as desired. Add any other effects to the channel using the same process.

    • 4

Click the "..." button to change the order of the effects chain or to remove an effect from the channel. Use the "X" button to remove effects and the arrow buttons to rearrange them.

    Send Effects

    • 5

Click the device name for the channel to which you want to add a send the effect. The device name is located above the gray insert effect box, near the bottom of the channel. Click "Add New Send" in the context menu that appears.

    • 6

Right-click inside the "Track Mixer" window. Click "Show Master Channels." Right-click again, and select "Show Aux Channels." Right-click a third time, hover over the "Layout" entry, then click "Horizontal Masters & Auxs" in the pop-up menu that appears.

    • 7

Move the mouse cursor over the gray box under "Aux 1." Click the green "+" sign that appears. Double-click an effect in the browser window to add it as a send effect.

    • 8

Raise the "Send Volume" slider in the lower-left corner of the window. Raise the "Return Volume" slider at the top of the "Track Mixer" gradually until you can hear the send effect. Click the send effect's name, then adjust its configuration as desired.
