How to Flatten a Bent Compact Disc

Damaged compact discs can cramp your style in a big way. CDs are used for countless tasks – from downloading software to recording music – but heat can warp them. Flattening a warped disc is necessary to make the device readable in your CD player or computer. Repairing a bent CD is possible using a few household items. While the process will take a few days to accomplish, flattening bent CDs is a wise way to save money over a replacement.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the bent CD. Rub the CD with a soft, micro-mesh cloth. Apply light to medium pressure and wipe until the entire surface area is free from dirt and dust.

    • 2

Preheat an oven on the "Warm" setting - about 100 degrees. Position the CD at center on a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet into the oven. Remove the CD once it is flat.

    • 3

Place the CD between two glass plates. Rest a 10 pound weight – or a large, heavy book – on top of the glass plates. Drape a cloth over the top plate, before placing on the weight, to protect the glass.

    • 4

Allow the weight to sit undisturbed for 48-72 hours. Remove the weight and glass, clean and play the CD.
