Maryland Nightclubs

Maryland is a small state but that doesn't mean it is short on nightlife. Annapolis and Baltimore are the largest cities and where the largest selection of nightlife is located. Maryland nightclubs have diverse entertainment offerings, whether you like to listen to indie bands, dance the night away to hot Latin beats or sing show tunes at a karaoke bar.
  1. Latin Palace

    • The Latin Palace is a dance club that plays Latin-style music such as salsa, bachata and reggaeton. The club is open Wednesday to Sunday. Each day from 5 until 9 p.m., the bar offers happy hour drink specials. Salsa lessons are offered Wednesday through Saturday from 8 until 9:30 p.m., with discounts for those who come to eat dinner in the upstairs restaurant, the "Restaurante Las Palmas."

    The Ottobar

    • Since 1997, the Ottobar has been bringing in musical groups from around the country to Baltimore. The Ottobar has showcased groups such as the White Stripes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dinosaur Jr. and Queens of the Stoneage. The club is open nightly Tuesday through Sunday. The club has two floors, upstairs and downstairs, each with its own stage and featuring different groups. Tickets for large acts can be bought ahead of time from the Ottobar website. The Ottobar can also host special events and birthday parties.

    Club Hippo

    • Club Hippo is a gay club in the heart of downtown Baltimore. The club is in the same building where the 1930's nightclub Chanticleer was located. The Chanticleer was famous for hosting performances by Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Henny Youngman and Sophie Tucker. Club Hippo opened its doors on July 7, 1972, and calls itself the oldest gay nightclub in the country. Club Hippo features three rooms. One room features a DJ and a large dance floor with a progressive light display. The second room is a saloon-style bar with pool tables and video games. The third room is used to host karaoke nights and Showtune Video Madness.

    The Barking Dog

    • The Barking Dog is in Bethesda, just northwest of Washington and 34 miles south of Baltimore. It is a pub-themed bar with beer on tap and in the bottle and a full bar. The bar is open Monday through Saturday and has various specials throughout the week. Tuesday nights at 7:30, salsa lessons are offered. On Thursday nights a DJ spins upstairs for patrons to dance all night. The barking dog also serves food, including BBQ chicken wings, nachos, burgers, steak and salads.

    The Whiskey

    • Located in Annapolis, the state capitol, The Whiskey is a live music venue plus a sports bar in one. It features an outdoor smoking deck, a pub-style restaurant and a large dance floor with a state-of-the-art sound system. The Whiskey is open Monday to Sunday. Tuesday to Sunday the bar opens at 4 p.m., but on Sunday it opens at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday it is open until 2 a.m. Live music is featured throughout the week. Tickets are available in advance for some music shows and can be purchased online on The Whiskey's website.
