Country Music Festivals in Michigan

Country music fans often enjoy gathering at festivals held in many different locations throughout Michigan. Many well-known and lesser-known country music artists and bands travel to Michigan to perform for their fans throughout the state. Some festivals play to mostly local fans while others attract country music fans from different areas of the country who come to Michigan to enjoy Michigan's scenery, attractions and, of course, the country music.
  1. Downtown Hoedown

    • The Downtown Hoedown, held annually at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit, showcases both established and new country music artists during its three-day festival. The festival attracts nationally-recognized country music performers as well as up-and-coming artists for three days in May. Country music fans from throughout the country gather in Detroit for the event. Some of the best-known country music musicians who have performed at the Detroit Hoedown include the Charlie Daniels Band, LeAnn Rimes, Emerson Drive, Gretchen Wilson, Tracy Byrd and Big and Rich. In 2011 fans will gather at Hart plaza on Friday May 11th from noon to 2:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. On Saturday May 12th the festival will begin at noon and run until midnight and on Sunday May 13th fans can hear the musicians play from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    Motongator Country Music Festival

    • Michigan's Upper Peninsula hosts the yearly Motongator Country Music Festival each August for country music fans. The festival, held in the town of Wallace in Michigan's Upper Peninsula near the Michigan-Wisconsin border, brings country music fans to Wallace to camp, fish and enjoy the festival's music. David Ball and Ty Herndon have played at the festival along with other local and regional performers. Festival organizers invite fans to come with their entire families to appreciate the beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula while enjoying the festival.

    KCQ Country Music Fest

    • Ojibway Island near Saginaw in central Michigan serves as the venue for the KCQ Country Music Fest, a June country music festival that features food and merchandise vendors, car and motorcycle shows and children's areas that allow country music fans to enjoy the island until the bands begin playing mid-morning. The festival offers free shuttles to bring the festival attendees in from Saginaw. Performing artists have included Jason Michael Carroll, Richie McDonald, Randy Houser and Jimmy Wayne.
