How to Learn to Draw a Treble Clef Sign

The Treble-clef indicates the notes above middle C on a piano. It originates from the letter G, which signifies the G note, located to the right of middle C on the piano keyboard. It is also known as the G-clef or the violin clef. The spiral in the center of the Treble-clef spirals around the second line, which represents G on the keyboard, and this is another factor in this symbol's name, G-clef. Writing the Treble-clef is a useful skill if you want to write your own sheet music.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a dot beneath the first line. Going from left to right, start to draw an arch below the dot and curve it up above the dot.

    • 2

Continue diagonally to the left at about a 15-degree angle from the vertical. When you cross the top line, begin to bend the line towards the right as you keep going up.

    • 3

Swing down in an arch towards the left at the peak of the Treble-clef. Cross the line you previously drew at the fourth line.

    • 4

Keep going downward diagonally at about a 45-degree angle. When you reach the second line, curve back towards to the right so that the clef “rests” on the bottom line.

    • 5

Complete your clef with a spiral that swings up to “kiss” the third line, coming down to cross the second, and ending right at the clef's center line.

    • 6

Repeat steps one through five until you feel comfortable drawing the Treble-clef from memory.
