Chicago Reggae Clubs

The Windy City has a very small reggae scene, a natural result of the cold weather and non-tropical environment found in Illinois. There are, however, a few reggae clubs that host much more than the basic Bob Marley hits. Most reggae clubs are ages 21 and up and require a drink minimum.
  1. Exedus Lounge

    • The Exedus Lounge features live reggae four nights every week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). On Wednesdays, DJs spin reggae, Red Stripe is on sale for $3, and it's also ladies night. Cover is $5 every day except Saturday ($10). Exedus is open from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. every night except Saturday (8 p.m. to 3 a.m.). Jamaican rum punch is only $3 every night.

    Wild Hare

    • Curiously located in the heart of Wrigleyville, Wild Hare has free post-game reggae parties after every Cubs game. Live reggae bands play all week, with no cover charge on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Reggae is the specialty at Wild Hare all week (except for Mondays which feature hip hop). But the biggest party happens on Saturday nights, when admission is $12 and the band plays until 3 a.m.

    Subterranean Thursdays

    • It only happens one night a week, but the best spot for reggae on Thursday's is the Subterranean in the heart of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Ladies can always get in for free, and it's $5 for guys. DJ Papa G spins the latest Jamaican hits and old school dancehall classics until 2 a.m. Red Stripes are on special for $3.50 all night.
