Latin Clubs in New York

Latin clubs in New York range from 10,000-square-foot nightclubs to small neighborhood spots where they push the tables back to create dance space. But whatever the venue, Latin-music lovers will find ample opportunities to warm to the beat in New York City’s Latin clubs.
  1. Cuba

    • Salsa band Son de Hoy plays live Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (as of January 2010) at Cuba. The club serves Cuban food, has a full bar and offers free cigars–Cuban of course. Cuba is located in Greenwich Village.

    El Morocco

    • This club is a stylish resurrection of the original El Morocco from the 1940s. It features live bands playing meringue, bachata and salsa. Reggaeton and Latin jazz can be heard here as well. Put on the glad rags–dresses, heels, jackets, ties–before you head over. The dress code is definitely not casual. El Morocco is in uptown Harlem.

    Club Cache

    • Club Cache is more about dancing and less about clubbing. On Thursday evenings only it morphs into an underground club where patrons show their stuff in Latin dance form. Disc jockeys spin mambo, salsa and even cha-cha. The club calls itself the "Home of the Dancer" for its focus on providing a place for serious Latin-dance aficionados to catch the rhythm. Club Cache is in the heart of the theater district and near Times Square.

    Gonzales y Gonzales

    • Live bands play a mix of Latin music Thursday through Saturday (as of January 2010) and disc jockeys spin the other nights at Gonzales y Gonzales. This club serves Mexican food in a lively atmosphere. The club's bar is a popular spot to grab a quick drop-by drink. The dance floor can get crowded when Latin club hoppers converge. Gonzales y Gonzales is located near the crossing of Houston and Broadway, north of Soho and east of Greenwich Village.

    • The disc jockeys at Club Iguana play a mix of meringue, cha-cha and bachata Friday nights. Also on Friday, at 7:30 p.m. (as of January 2010), customers can catch a free beginner salsa dance lesson. Drink specials draw Friday-night and after-work crowds and keep them close for the evening. Club Iguana has a dinner and snack menu. The club is in Midtown close to the theater district.
