Peavey SP4 Specifications

Founded by Hartley Peavey in 1965, Peavey is an electronics company that has been helping artists play live music for decades. The company specializes in creating amps and public address (PA) systems that bring every riff, chord, and "oh yeah" to the back of the house. One of Peavey's most recent products is the SP4 PA Cabinet, which retails for about $900 in 2010.
  1. Features

    • The SP4 is a "quasi-three-way, full range, sound reinforcement system," with an RX 22 compression driver and two BWX Black Widow® 4-inch coil woofers. The PA also features an asymmetrical horn that aims the sound downward at a 10-degree angle so that it hits audience members instead of going over them. Other features include Sound Guard™ III tweeter protection, a full range of inputs, including two 1/4-inch phone jacks, bi-amp capability, and an enclosure made of aspen hardwood.

    Engineering

    • With an operating bandwidth of 52 Hz to 17 kHz, the SP 4 has an output level of 100 decibels (dB) per one watt input at a distance of 1 meter from the device. It can handle 1,000 continuous Watts of power and has a maximum program power of 2,000 Watts, minimum amp headroom of 3 dB, and a peak power input of 4,000 Watts.

    Frequency Response

    • The frequency response measures how faithfully a device reproduces the input signal. Engineers on the SP4 made the sound smooth and accurate within the entire bandwidth of 52 Hz to 17 kHz, as demonstrated through various performance graphs found on Peavey's website.

    Measurements

    • The entire SP4 system is 50.63 inches in height, 20.55 inches wide, and 23.00 inches deep in the front. The back of the system is the same, except for the width, which tapers to 12.63 inches. It weighs 127 pounds and is not meant for suspension above the stage. Instead, it should be placed on the floor or stage and features rubber feet to prevent slipping.
