How to Build a Flex Mic Stand

Microphone stands are either a straight stand that has a base with one straight stem coming up from the center of it or a straight stand with the addition of a hinged horizontal arm called a boom arm. Some live sound engineers want a flexible mic stand arm for easy microphone placement. These flexible arms, called goose-neck arms, can be purchased as an after-market piece from most music stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Standard microphone stand (no boom arm)
  • Goose-neck microphone stand attachment
  • Microphone clip
  • Microphone

Instructions

    • 1

Screw the goose-neck microphone arm on to the threads at the top of the microphone stand.

    • 2

Thread the microphone clip onto the end of the goose-neck arm.

    • 3

Place the microphone into the microphone clip. Bend the goose-neck arm into almost any desired position. Positioning the goose-neck arm can be done quickly and without unlocking multiple parts of the stand like standard microphone stands.
