How to Create a CD for a Mac on a PC

Creating a music CD on a PC is usually quite simple with the proper burning software. If you have a good library of Mp3s on your PC and a user-friendly software program, you can usually burn a CD fairly quickly. To play a CD created on a PC on a Mac, you just need to insert the burned CD into the Mac, and it should start playing in iTunes or another music program where you default your music to play.

  1. How to Create a CD for a Mac on a PC

    • 1

Insert a blank CD-R into the PC. Make sure there is nothing on the CD already, and if you are using a CD-RW, make sure you are not going to write over something you need. Your computer should alert you if you insert a CD that has something written on it. Choose a brand of CD that can be used in either a PC or a Mac. Most CDs are compatible, but be sure to read the labels to ensure you won't run into any problems.

Open your CD burning software program. This program should have a simple walkthrough so you can simply drag and drop the songs you want to add to the CD into a playlist. You may have to create a new, blank playlist to start with, and use that as a working spot. Generally, Macs use iTunes as a playlist and CD recording, while PCs can use WinAmp of Windows Media for playing music files and a variety of CD burning software, such as Nero, to convert the .mp3 format to .wav format to play in many regular CD players.

Choose the songs you want to add to your CD. Make sure they are all in .mp3 format. Once you have your list of songs, the program should give you a total running time length of the entire CD at the bottom of the screen. Make sure this total length will fit on the CD you put in the computer. Your computer should alert you if all the songs will not fit on the disk. Any songs that are strictly a Windows Media file will not play in iTunes on the Mac.

Rearrange the songs in the list to put them in the order you want them to play on the CD. This is a simple step and can be done by simply dragging and dropping the songs in the created playlist to the order you desire.

    • 5

Click the 'burn' button on the computer program. This will start the burning process for the CD and begin burning your music onto the disk. When it is finished, you can check the CD for quality and playability by playing it in your PC, and listening to samples of the tracks. If the transferred tracks are in .wav format, you can play the CD in a normal CD player. If they are in .mp3, you should be able to bring the songs up in iTunes on the Mac.
