How to Create a Title for a Poster

People use posters for many things. They can be advertisements for a new businesses opening, sales at old businesses or town events like sports games or community plays. Posters tell you about the candidates for political positions. They can also tell us about local reasons to celebrate, motivate people to help their community by volunteering or recycling and inform us of local issues and lost pets. Since posters are so informative, the title is arguably the most important piece of a poster.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down a few possibilities about what you want your poster to say. People only take a few seconds to look at a poster, so your title must tell them everything you want your poster to convey in a short, precise phrase.

    • 2

Avoid using "to be" verbs, participles and lots of small words. The phrase "We would like you to celebrate with us," takes much longer to read than "Celebrate with us!" The second example conveys effectively that someone is planning a celebration.

    • 3

Write your title near the top of your poster, using stencils and paint or a large, thick-tipped marker. Make your title large and print it in a neat, readable font. All capitals capture attention and can be printed neatly. People generally read posters from top to bottom.

    • 4

Allow space between your title and the rest of your poster.
