Perhaps the most well-known program to organize music is iTunes, the music player, music store, and music organizing program made by Apple. What makes iTunes great is that as soon as you download a song from the Internet, or "rip" a song from a CD, iTunes quickly organizes the song into your music library. Individual tabs at the top of the music library allow you to view all of your songs by artist, genre, release date or most often played. iTunes is a great application to organize music if you have a relatively small collection (less than 5,000 songs), have an iPod or iPhone, and/or primarily purchase music online.
An alternative to iTunes, Windows Media Player comes with any copy of Windows and also helps you organize your music by artist, release date, genre and album. When you add a downloaded song or copy a song from a CD, Windows Media Player adds the song or album to your music library, allowing you to view all of your music in one place. Like iTunes, Windows Media Player also enables you to create playlists, add your music to an mp3 player or other audio device, or listen to music directly from your computer. Windows Media Player is a helpful application to organize your music if you have large amounts of songs in addition to music videos.
Besides iTunes and Windows Media Player, other music-organizing programs are available for download. Organize-Music.com offers a music organizing program that allows you to organize your music quickly, as well as re-name tracks and delete duplicate songs. MediaMonkey.com also has a media organizer that deletes duplicate songs or albums, and also supports a wide variety of audio formats. This is key when organizing your music on a computer, especially if you have a vast collection in multiple audio formats such as mp3, wma, .oog or others. MediaMonkey and Organize-Music work well for those with very large collections of music with multiple formats.
