In order to make a copy in iTunes tracks must first be placed in a playlist, which can be done simply by dropping the CD icon into the playlist. Importing the CD directly into the library will create an extra step since CDs are burned from playlists, not the library.
The iTunes preferences should allow the desired file format such as WAV or AIFF. Insert the source CD into the computer tray then look for the icon to appear on the desktop or in iTunes. You will be prompted to import audio or select only certain tracks to import. Drag and drop each desired track into the playlist.
Once all the tracks have been imported, enter song data to avoid confusion over the track listing, although that information is likely to already be encoded in a professional CD. The iTunes program allows the user to fill out an extensive song profile by clicking "file" then "get info." The form has slots for artist, song title, album title, lyrics and other musical data. Pictures and videos can also be stored in the audio file.
Playlists can be edited by dragging and dropping each song to the track position you want. The total time of the playlist can't exceed the capacity of the CD, which is usually just over 80 minutes. The total time is displayed at the bottom of the iTunes screen. If too many songs are on the playlist iTunes will not burn the list to CD and will display a message that tells there's not enough disc space. That can be resolved by deleting the appropriate number of songs from the playlist. When everything is in order, click "burn disc" at the bottom of the screen and then allow several minutes for the duplication process to run. When the disc is done, you will hear a sound effect and see a message box confirming the burn is complete.
