Rip or download the song onto your computer using the music site or CD of your choice. You will need to own the song you want to turn into a ring tone.
Install conversion software and restart before converting. AVS makes a great converter called, "AVS Ring Tone Converter" or you can use an online service for free such as Tone Bee.
Open the conversion software or web page. Select the button that says "Add file" or "Browse." Select the music you want to make into a ring tone. Most converters will accept MP3, AVI, WAV, and WMA files as source files. There will be an "Edit," "Review" or "Trim" button. Select it. This new window will allow you to edit the ring tone to the part of the song you want. You'll see a bar at either end. The first bar goes at the beginning of the part you want. The other bar goes to the end. Select "Crop," "Trim" or "Execute" and then "Play" to hear your trimmed clip. Highlight your file and look for a button that says "Ring tone" or "Mobile file." Select it and hit "Convert." Samsung phones accept the following formats: MIDI, QCP, MMF, MP3, WAV, AMR. However, the most popular are MIDI, MP3, and QCP.
Plug in your phone via its USB and open its platform. Drag the newly converted ring tone into your phone's ring tone directory. Some services require that you e-mail the file to your phone. For instance, Verizon requires that you attach the file to an e-mail and send it to YOUR PHONE NUMBER @vzwpix.com. Each service provider will have a particular protocol.
Navigate to your phone's "Settings" and "Tools" using the key pad "Sounds" or "Ring tones." Select the ring tone you just loaded. Call your cell to test the ring tone.
