How to Create Automatic Playlists in iTunes

Automatic playlists in iTunes play multiple songs that match a criteria established by you, the listener. Instead of forming a playlist song by song, the iTunes program will use the criteria to go through your library and create a playlist for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "File" button in iTunes. Select "New Smart Playlist." A "Smart Playlist" box will appear.

    • 2

Fill in the details of the playlist. In the first box, click on the arrow, then select one of the choices to determine the main anchor of the list. Some of the options are by artist, rating, track number, last played and even album artwork. The second box asks you to define what the track should contain, and the third box is blank. Fill in any other details here.

    • 3

Insert a number in the "Limit to" box. The program will add an unlimited number of songs under your categories unless you have a limit here. The default is set at 25 songs.

Click "OK" to start the playlist. If you want the list to update automatically, leave a check in the "Live Updating" box in the smart playlist box.
