Open Pro Tools and create a new session by clicking "File", "New Session."
Name the Pro Tools session to represent the tape you are recording (for example, "Mix Tape 1"), choose where you'd like to save it and click "Save."
Click "Track", "New Track" and create two new mono tracks. To do this, select "Mono" from the drop down "Track Format" column, choose "2" tracks, and click "Create."
Name track 1 "Left" and pan it hard left. Name track 2 "Right" and pan it hard right.
Set the input of "Left" to Pro Tools input 1.
Set the input of "Right" to Pro Tools input 2.
Plug the left RCA connector into the left output of the cassette player. Plug the corresponding left 1/4-inch connector into Pro Tools input 1.
Plug the right RCA connector into the right output of the cassette player. Plug the corresponding right 1/4-inch connector into Pro Tools input 2.
Arm tracks "Left" and "Right" for recording by pressing the record button on each track.
Play back the cassette and adjust the level of inputs 1 and 2 so that the average peaks of the "Left" and "Right" tracks are at the same level. Be sure that the inputs do not overload during playback, as this will cause unwanted distortion. If the LED signal meters turn red during playback, then the input is overloading. Simply turn the input gain down if this occurs.
