How to Import Music on CDs

Importing music on CDs is an effortless process with the help of a free audio program such as Windows Media Player, which is conveniently included with Windows. Not only is importing music a good way to back up your music collection onto the hard drive of your computer, but its also makes it convenient to transfer the imported music to MP3 players, burn mix CDs or simply listen to music on your computer speakers.

      Insert a CD containing music into your computer's optical (CD or DVD) drive.

      Open Windows Media Player. Hover your mouse cursor over the "Rip" button" and click the arrow that appears below the button.

      Select the audio format that you would like to import the music CD in from the drop-down menu that appears by clicking on "Format," then the format name. For example, importing a music CD in the WAV format will result in full-quality,uncompressed music files, whereas importing a music CD in the MP3 format will result in lower-quality, compressed audio files.

      Click the "Rip" button and then click "Start Rip." Windows Media Player will import the music tracks and add them to its library.
