How to Change a CD to a MP3

A CD can be changed to an MP3 quickly and efficiently by using Windows Media Player, which comes installed on all Windows computers. After selecting the desired settings, Windows Media Player will automatically change the CD to an MP3 and save it on the computer. These MP3 files can then be accessed through Windows Media Player, or can be opened with any other audio program by finding the files in the computer's "Music" folder.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the CD to be changed to an MP3 into the computer's CD player.

    • 2

Click "Start," select "Programs" and click on Windows Media Player to open that program.

    • 3

Click the "Rip" button and then hover the cursor over this button. An arrow will then appear below this button. Click the arrow and select "MP3" as the importing format from the menu that appears.

    • 4

Adjust the desired settings, then click "Start Rip." After clicking "Start Rip," Windows Media Player will rip the audio from the CD, change it to MP3 and save it in the default "Music" folder on the computer. To access these MP3 files outside of Windows Media Player, click "Start" and select "Music" to open the "Music" folder that contains these MP3 files. When Windows Media Player is finished ripping the CD, eject it from the computer.
