Instructions

    • 1

Install the MIDI interface driver on your computer. Locate the CD-ROM that came with the interface, insert the disc into your computer's disc drive and double-click the installer.

    • 2

Plug your MIDI cable into your MIDI interface. Insert one of the five-pin connectors into the "MIDI In" port. Simply locate the two MIDI ports on the side of the interface and locate the words "MIDI In" above the correct port.

    • 3

Plug the opposite end of your cable into the DGX202. Locate the "MIDI Out" port on the back of the keyboard and insert the connector.

    • 4

Plug your MIDI interface into your computer. Depending on the model, your interface will have either a USB or FireWire connector. Plug the connector into the corresponding USB or FireWire port on your computer.

    • 5

Open your digital-audio software. For your DGX202 to communicate with your computer, you will need to use a MIDI compatible program. Examples of simple, user-friendly programs include GarageBand, Mixcraft and QTractor.

    • 6

Create a new project using your music program. Just click "File" on the menu bar and select "New" on the drop-down menu. Depending on your software, you may need to create a MIDI track, which serves as a digital recording space, before you can begin transmitting music. Locate your "New track" command and select the "MIDI" option, which will give you a specially formatted MIDI track, as opposed to a raw audio track.

    • 7

Begin recording by pressing the "Record" button on your software browser and playing musical sequences on your DGX202. The MIDI interface will transmit the raw notes from your keyboard to your computer.

    • 8

Take advantage of the unique features on your DGX202. For example, toggle the pitch bend on the left hand side of your keyboard to create a synthetic gliding effect. Press the "Song Memory" buttons to input previously recorded sequences onto your PC for easy editing.
