Download the proper driver by visiting the support section of the M-Audio website. Ensure that you download the correct driver that matches the Keystation 49E and your operating system. Install the driver by following the onscreen instructions. Restart your computer.
Connect the Keystation 49E to your computer via USB cable or through an external audio interface's MIDI input. If connecting by MIDI, run a standard MIDI cable from the MIDI Out port on your Keystation to the MIDI In port on the interface. The keyboard is bus powered meaning an active USB connection is all that is needed to supply power to the keyboard.
Open a digital audio workstation that features the ability to record MIDI and virtual instrument tracks. Create a new virtual instrument track and insert any soundbank. You should now be able to play and hear notes through the software while playing the Keystation. If you are unable, double check your audio software's preferences to ensure that the Keystation 49E is an available MIDI input.
Create any number of virtual instrument tracks and record MIDI information controlled by your Keystation 49E and played through your audio software. You may use the Keystation and your audio software for live performance.
