How to Connect to MP3 Rocket

MP3 Rocket is an online peer-to-peer file sharing program, which allows you to download music, videos and other files over the Internet for free. Files are shared when you are "signed in" to your Rocket account. There is much debate over whether programs such as MP3 Rocket are appropriate due to the legalities of digital music reproduction, but if you decide that connecting to such a service will work well for you, it's easy to learn how to successfully connect to the service.

  1. How to Connect to MP3 Rocket

    • 1

Visit the MP3 Rocket website and download the software. This will take only a few minutes, and the software must be installed on your computer to connect to the service. Create a user name and add account information.

    • 2

Install the software onto your computer. You will need the administrative password for your computer in order to do this. Grant access to MP3 Rocket and click on the program icon after the installation is complete to open the software.

    • 3

Make sure your computer can connect to MP3 Rocket by checking your firewalls. On Windows XP, for example, go to the Start Menu and select the Control Panel. Open up your network connections and choose Properties. Then, under the Advanced tab, click on the settings button and proceed to the Exceptions tab. Click on the Add Program button and select MP3 Rocket from the list. Select Add Port, and then enter Gnutella into the name field. If your computer requires a port number type in 6346. Check to make sure the TCP radio button is selected, then click OK to confirm selections.

This process must be repeated. Click on Add Port again and enter Gnutella in the name field. This time, make sure the UDP radio button is selected. This is so you have two different items labeled for the firewall. More specific instructions and the steps for other operating systems are available through the link found in this article's Resources.
