How to Beat Match with Virtual DJ

Virtual DJ is a software program that simulates the setup of a physical DJ booth. Simulated turntables, mixer and DJ controls are available to help a DJ spin digital music. It is one of the most popular DJ software available and is also easy to use. Beat matching is the process of matching the beats of two songs to smooth the transition from one song to another. This process can require some finesse and an adjustment of the BPM (beats per minute) of the songs.

Instructions

Open Virtual DJ. A shortcut for the program is located in the Start Menu's Program Files.

    • 2

Load the tracks that will be mixed into the library by clicking the "+" button and locating the tracks on the hard drive. Once the tracks are loaded into the library, drag the tracks that will be mixed into the two decks.

Begin to lay the first track. Keep the cross fader 100 percent on the first track. Press "play" on the second track and use the headphones to listen to the second song. Use the rhythm window at the top to look at the EQ of both songs. This can help in beat matching.
