How to Find a Music Title

Music enthusiasts can easily recite the melody of a song, but those repeating parts may reveal very little about its title. You might hear a song on the Internet, radio or playing from a CD and wish to capture it for your own personal music collection. However, before you can download, record or rip the song, you need to know its name so that you can search for it. If the name of a song eludes you, there are a few methods you can use to detect or search for that information.

Instructions

    • 1

Display the "Title" column heading in the operating system. If you store music files on the PC's hard drive or use the PC to read files from a CD, browse to open the folder or drive letter (D or E) that holds the file. Look across the column headings at the top of the window to find "Title" and match that to the music file.

If Title is not showing, then right-click the column heading area, then select "More." Check mark the box next to "Title," then click "OK."

Use Windows Media Player to detect or find the music title. Open WMP from the "All Programs" list in Windows. Click "File," then "Open." Browse for the music file, then open it in the program. WMP will display the title of the song if it can detect it from the music file.

Visit a reputable lyrics website if you know the words of the song. MTV and VH1 host a lyrics Web page (see links in Resources). Type the song's lyrics in the search box on the Web page.
