How to Share Digital Music

Digital music has some distinct advantages over the analog media that once dominated the market. In addition to its high quality and editing capabilities, digital music can be shared with the click of a button. If you have original song recordings, royalty-free audio samples or other music tracks that you can legally distribute, you can use the Internet to share the files with everybody you know.

Instructions

    • 1

Post your original music on streaming social networks. Sign up for free membership with sites like PureVolume, Myspace, ReverbNation, BoomDizzle, ElectroGarden and FloTones (See Resources). Click the "Sign Up" or "Register" link to create a band/artist profile and upload songs from your hard drive. Make sure only to upload songs to which you own the full copyright.

Copy your digital music to blank CDs. Select a free media player with audio burning capabilities, such as iTunes, MediaMonkey or Windows Media Player. Open your software, click the "Playlist" or "New Playlist" button to create a music folder, and drag songs onto the playlist to create your custom CD. A standard audio CD can hold up to 80 minutes of music. When you finish setting up your playlist, insert a blank CD-R into your disc drive and select the "Burn" option. Make lots of copy of your CD to share with friends, relatives and fans.

Upload digital music to file storage sites. First, you need to gather all of the music that you want to share and insert it into a folder on your hard drive. Then compress the folder using a program like 7-Zip, WinZip or ZipIt (See Resources). Mac OS X users can right-click the folder and select "Compress" or "Create Archive". Then visit a storage site like RapidShare, SendSpace or YouSendIt, click the "Upload" button and upload your compressed file (See Resources). When you receive the download link, email or send it to any interested parties.
