Insert the XS8 installation CD into your computer's disc drive and install the XS8 driver. This will enable Cubase to communicate with your Motif XS8 through USB. When the installer appears on your screen, double-click the icon and select the "Install" option. Eject the disc.
Connect your Motif XS8 to your PC. On the back panel of the XS8, you will find USB ports: a square port and a rectangular port. Using the included USB A-to-B cable, insert the square connector (USB B) into the corresponding USB port on the back of your XS8, directly beneath the words "To Host." Insert the opposite connector into any unoccupied USB port on your computer.
Open Cubase 5. The Motif XS8 includes a copy of Cubase 4, although you still will have full compatibility with the more recent version.
Click (Devices > Device Setup) on your menu bar. With Cubase open and selected, you will find the "Devices" menu at the top of your screen. When you select the "Device Setup" sub menu, a window will appear with your configuration options.
Click "VST Audiobay." You can find it in the left column of your configuration window. Click the "Master ASIO Driver" bubble and select "Motif XS8" from the list of options that appears.
