How to Create a MIDI Track in Protools SE

Pro Tools SE is a simplified version of Avid's flagship Pro Tools platform bundled with numerous audio interface and other home studio devices. It can record and edit audio and MIDI data on dedicated tracks. In order to record either type of data, the user must first create the corresponding track type. Once the user creates a MIDI track, he can load a compatible software instrument on that track and record its output.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Pro Tools SE. Once it loads, a project selection dialogue will be displayed.

    • 2

Use the project selection dialogue to open an established project or select "Empty Session" to create a blank project file. Pro Tools will load your selection and display its standard track view.

    • 3

Open the "Track" menu in the menu bar and choose "New." The "New Track" dialogue will appear.

    • 4

Select "Instrument Track" in the "New Track" dialogue and click "Create." A new MIDI track will appear in Pro Tools SE's main track window.
