How to Get Auto-Tune Effects

Auto-tune is a feature developed by Antares Software used in sound recording and music production. Auto-tune is used for pitch correction in instrumental and vocal performances. Although auto-tune can be used for slight pitch correction resulting in a song that sounds like it is perfectly on pitch, auto-tune can also be used to give vocals or instruments a more synthesized effect. Adding the auto-tune effect to your music will require some basic knowledge of music recording, so make sure to gain familiarity with an auto-tune compatible recording program before proceeding.

Instructions

    • 1

Install auto-tune compatible software on your computer. Some of the commonly used compatible software programs include Ableton Live, Apple Garageband, Acoustica Mixcraft, Audacity and Adobe Audition. For a list of all compatible programs, please review the Antares Software Compatibility information.

    • 2

Download the Antares auto-tune plugin from the Antares website. Install the plugin according to the directions on the site.

    • 3

Open your Antares-compatible music software program. Make sure that auto-tune installed correctly by viewing the plugins in your software program; for most programs, plugins will be listed under the DirextX effects menu. If auto-tune does not appear in your list of plugins, it's possible that you are using an incompatible program or that the plugin did not install correctly.

    • 4

Create an auto-tune effect in your music software program. This can be achieved by loading the auto-tune plugin in your music software program and editing the auto-tune settings to achieve the effect you desire.

    • 5

Load any sound recording into your music software program by recording it directly to the program or loading it from a preexisting file. Apply the auto-tune effect you created with Antares auto-tune software to your sound recording. This final step will vary depending on the music software you are using, but generally you apply your auto-tune effect by checking an "apply effect" box in your music software program after your sound recording has been loaded.
