Gather parts together. Understand what each part is before trying to put it together. The claws will be in a v-shape with bent edges that are made to grip or clasp on. The tension rods will be in a t-shape with threads at the end. Heads are the covers to each end of the drum and the shell is the core of the drum. Hoops are a metal circles that will be placed around the top of the drum and spurs are already attached to the drum and is what the drum will sit on.
Place the head onto the front of the bass drum. The front head will have a logo on it and is sometimes a dark color. The top of the shell will be the opposite end that the spurs are facing. Make sure that the head sits evenly on the shell.
Put the hoop onto the drum. The hoop should fit over the ring of the drum and will hold the head of the drum on. It will also sit up a little from the head.
Get the tension rod and place a washer on the threaded end a claw on the other end. Slide the rod into the lug on the side of the drum. Press the claws on the side of the shell to clasp onto the rim of the drum. The claws will brace the rim and the head onto the drum. There should be 8 lugs in all which would mean there will be 8 claws and tension rods as well.
Twist the tip of the tension rod to tighten the rod. Do the same for each tension rod placed around the shell. Then turn the bass drum over and repeat steps 2 through 4. Make sure to twist the tension rods for the last step. Then stand the drum on its spurs.
